How a Family Farm, a Plague, and a Dream Sparked a Coffee Revolution in Honduras

Before Mythoz had a name, it had a purpose.

It was born from the ashes of loss—after a devastating outbreak of Roya (a disease that kills coffee plants) wiped out nearly 70% of our family’s crop.

At the time, we sold our coffee through traditional, local channels. Low prices. No traceability. No sustainability. The farm—and everyone within it—was barely surviving. It was then that we realized this wasn’t just our story; it was the reality for most coffee producers, both in Honduras and around the world.

Mythoz started as an idea.
A possible solution to a global problem.
A better ground—where producers are valued, not exploited, and where final consumers can make a direct impact.
It was also a response to a national need in Honduras.

Our founder, David Hernández, returned from his master’s studies in coffee science and economics with one mission:
To make small and medium-scale farms profitable and sustainable.

At the time, it sounded like a dream—but it was one worth chasing.

For four years, we worked to elevate our farm to specialty coffee standards.
(It’s worth noting: making just one change at the processing level can take over 12 months of testing and evaluation.)

It took grit, trial and error, and the support of friends and family. But eventually, we transformed how we grew, processed, and valued our coffee—and we finally hit specialty grade.

By 2016, Mythoz wasn’t yet a brand—it was a promise.

In Honduras, the best coffees were always exported. What remained was what locals consumed—leftovers and rejects. Most producers had never even tasted their own coffee. And the local market had little to no awareness of quality.

How could we talk about origin—if origin had never tasted its own value?

We realized the problem wasn’t just pricing.
It was perception.

That’s when we understood that education is the tool that elevates awareness—and ultimately, value.

By 2019, more family and friends joined the mission:

Katia Hernández, Branding and Design Specialist
Sabrina Bustillo, Comercial Director
David Hernández Sr., Agrobusiness expert and farm owner
Emilio Irías, Marketing Strategist

Together, we became the dream team behind Mythoz.

With them, we started telling our truth behind every cup.
We showed what it really takes to produce specialty coffee.
And we designed the strategies to bring this message to Honduras—and the world.

We weren’t just selling beans.
We were building awareness.
This wasn’t a side project.
It became the flame that fuels our DNA.

And as we grew, we made a bold decision:
To redefine the entire supply chain.

We built our own infrastructure—from roasting to packaging to retail—ensuring that value flows back to where it originates.

Today, Mythoz is a vertically integrated movement
Built by producers,
for producers,

With the most conscious consumers in mind.

We’ve grown from our own family farm to working with over 30 producing families across six regions of Honduras—each aligned with our quality and sustainability standards.

Our model guarantees:
✔️ Direct trade
✔️ Full traceability
✔️ Pricing based on effort, not market speculation

We believe coffee should be de-commoditized.

We pay beyond the C-price.
We value intention.
And we believe good coffee starts with good relationships—at origin.

We could have launched with anything. But Mythoz Legacy made the most sense—because it is our legacy.
